The date is September 1967, the place Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, USA. These two tanks are at the cutting edge of armoured warfare, but as later service would reveal, each had a significant shortcoming.
On the left is the American M60A1E1, an experimental vehicle developed into the M60A2 production model. Its XM81 152mm combined gun and missile launcher was troublesome in service, as the missile was unreliable and the gun ammunition proved volatile when exposed to high heat. On the right is a British Chieftain Mark 2. Контракт на модернизацию 540 машин БМП-2 и БМД-2 в рамках государственной программы вооружений на 2018-2025 годы подписали Госкорпорация «Ростех» и Минобороны РФ, сообщил глава Ростеха Сергей Чемезов.
От Ростеха контракт подписал замгендиректора холдинга «Высокоточные комплексы», управляющий директор КБП Дмитрий Коноплев, а от Министерства обороны - замминистра Юрий Борисов. По его словам, контракт будет исполнен в течение 10 лет. Новостей пока нет.
